QT Marshall has been with AEW since day one, though he took a brief hiatus before returning in 2024. Upon his return, however, Marshall stepped back from his dual role as a wrestler/producer and now works solely behind the scenes. Appearing on Gabby AF, Marshall opened up about why he’s no longer wrestling in AEW.
“I don’t wrestle at AEW because me and Tony [Khan] just never saw eye to eye on the wrestling side of things,” Marshall explained.
Despite this disagreement, Marshall emphasized that there’s no bad blood between him and AEW owner Tony Khan. In fact, Khan has been supportive of Marshall’s backstage role while also allowing him the freedom to wrestle elsewhere when he wants.
“I love Tony,” Marshall said. “I don’t care what anyone says about him. Everybody always says the same thing—he’s the nicest guy. When I came back, it was just, ‘What do you want me to do?’ We worked it out. Now I bring my backpack, and I can wrestle anywhere, except WWE, of course.”
Marshall went on to share that there were plans for him to work with TNA (now Impact Wrestling) while continuing his AEW backstage role, with Khan even offering to help cover his travel expenses. Although those initial plans fell through, Marshall is now set to work with Scott D’Amore’s Maple Leaf Wrestling in the near future.
“I was excited to work for TNA at the time, and Tony was on board, but things didn’t pan out. Now I’ll be working with Scott for Maple Leaf Wrestling in a few weeks, and I’m really looking forward to that,” Marshall added.
